Several years ago the Pacers discussed adopting a section of the Trace for periodic cleanup. There was some discussion with the Trail Manager, but the project never got going. At Sunday's Pacer meeting, this was once again discussed and I was appointed to talk to the Trail Manager. Instead of doing that, I presented this as a topic of discussion at Monday's Friends of the Trace Meeting. I felt like the Pacers might not be interested in doing this if they would be the only organization involved. At the Friends meeting we decided to talk with the Trail Manager and if he was in agreement, the Friends of the Trace would attempt to get organizations involved and have the entire length of the trace adopted for cleanup.
The project has been approved, pending the establishment of certain guidelines, etc. The Trail Manager has asked that if the Pacers do participate in the program, he would like for us to adopt the section from the Gateway to Westover Drive (or whatever that's callled). This would be a little over 1.5 miles. That's not much, but it is the busiest/most populated section of the Trace and as a result is the area in greatest need of cleaning.
Before we proceed with the project, I think we need to establish that there is an interest on the part of the Pacers. We would need to have a group that would volunteer to pick up trash and other debris from the Trace at least once a month. Hopefully, enouigh people would be interested so that the same people would not be working each month.
I need to know from the club if there is anyone interested in heading up this project and I also need the names of people who will commit to helping with the project. Please contact me directly or post a response to this topic.
