Any Pacer going to Sunfish or the Y triathlons on Saturday?

Postby Raul on Mon Jul 07, 2008 4:31 pm

Just curious... are there other pacers participating either in the Sunfish Triathlon or the Y Triathlon this Saturday? Do you want to compete in the local sprint tri-for-fun? Or are you aiming to finish the Meridian Tri and be ready for your first ironman?

As you can imagine, I will be in the Y. Why? First, I won't drown in the swimming pool; second, I won't need to borrow a bike; third, there is not chance I will fall from a star trac spinner while riding it "fast", and fourth, I think I will be able to run or at least jog or walk the final 5K under temperatures in the 90's. In addition, I will save some money in gas! ($4 per gallon is crazy!).

Of course, I will be one of the top triathletes (in the back!) . I am a really, really slow and weak swimmer. It will take at least 15-16 minutes for me to cover the 400m. If I ride a 15m/h pace during the bike leg, I can add another hour. Finally, I suspect I will be very tired by the time I start running outside.... let's add another 25-27 minutes to the overall time plus 5-7 minutes between transitions! Therefore, expect me to be finishing 1:45 to 1:50 after the gun goes off! - Will be anyone else there at the time? or will all be already gone and eating lunch at home?

I will be there

I will be at the Y, but certainly not as a competitor. I will be working as a volunteer and I promise to not leave until Raul finishes.

Best of luck, Raul. I will miss both events this weekend as "Sheryl and Don's move - Part 1" - occurs (taking a moving truck load full of stuff to store in Oxford, MS.) We'll be back sometime next week and living in a nearly empty apartment until later in July when we move ourselves, too.

I'll look forward to reading your race report. Maybe someone who is going to Meridian will write one, too. I am sorry to miss the Sunfish as I've done the triathlon twice (2006, 2007) and the duathlon twice ('07, '08) and always enjoyed racing there.

I will tri

Nestor, I will be there at the Y in the back with you. Lucky for you, I am the only one that trains less than you. The last time I was in water was the "Tri" at Pep's Point. My running schedule has been a once a week deal @ Becky's Speed Work and I have been on my bike twice in the last year. see you there

You guys may need help

Postby ryderruns on Thu Jul 10, 2008 1:40 pm

Since I will be working this event, I will be sure and alert the swimming officials that they may need to be ready to make a rescue. Nan, the race director is a former ER nurse, so I'll make sure she is alert to the fact that her medical services may be needed.

Seriously, this is what I like about you two guys---you just go for it! No training, no tapering, no worry! Just show up and do the event. I guess that's not totally correct. This morning, I did see Charles at the Y as he was going for a test swim.

Good luck to everyone who is triiiing.

GREAT Charles!!! 8)
Those people who attend the event will have the opportunity to be witnesses of the great battle to the end between Charles "MichaelPhelps" Jackson and Nestor "IanCrocker" Anzola, two of the top swimmers in the World....of Thursday Night Poker. But not only that, they will also show their phenomenal technique and skills in the bike and the crawling! What else could you ask for?
Please! If you go to the Y Family on Saturday, don't forget to bring some lunch with you. It will be 1:00pm by the time you have the chance to see these guys crossing the finish line!
Tapering? what is that?

Sounds like a competition!! A challenge!! I would like to go and cheer ya'll on, but alas, Charles informed me that I would irritate him more than encourage. So, I can take a hint!! I will have to read the race report. Good luck everyone. I would jump in there, but I know my limitations, I am probably a worse swimmer than Nestor. Also, that peddling in place thing would get old fast.
Catch you on the run!! Audrey
