Thanks for all the well wishes. I am not kidding when I say my training for this marathon was just aweful. I think I MAY have gotten in two runs of 17 miles for long runs and probably averaged 35 - 40 miles a week. I think one of the things I was able to do that really helped was more hill work (tempo/hill repeats).
I had no expectations going into the race other than to take it easy and have fun. I ran a 7:47 first mile and then settled into about a 7:25 pace and thought I'd see how that went. I felt good and decided to push the pace after the 1/2 marathon point. I fully expected to crash at some point, but I was able to keep going. I did get tired at the end, but I never felt like I was going to cramp. All in all, I couldn't have expected to do better. I'll most likely be back again next year... hopefully with other Pine Belt Pacers.
Later,
Terry
