running sucked tonight! i was asked to teach the spin class tonight around 1:30 today so it was pretty last minute. on already tired legs from 2 previous spin classes and some good runs, i taught again tonight. after that, i went out for my 5 mile run that i'm scheduled for today. it was warm, extremely steamy, and i was worn out! it sucked! but i got it in and will most likely rest a lot tomorrow. _________________ Run! for the first time in forever, i did a sunday workout! because i'm too chicken to ride with the sunday bike group, i went to the gym. i did an hour, pretty hard, on the bike in the gym then 15 minutes hard on the rowing machine. i finished up with some abs and stretching. _________________ Run! If you're referring to the 1:30 pm ride from the Gateway, you might be using good judgement by *not* riding with them. If you look at their history of accidents, me included when I dog was loose on the trail, we might all be wise to avoid that group.
Now, I'll sit back and wait to be flamed for the above statements. _________________ Becky Ryder

week two started off well this morning with a 6 mile run. i did 1.5 before meeting vicki to run 4, then finished up with my last .5.
i second all the comments on the heat and humidity. it's been super hot and humid, even at 5:30 this morning when i started. we're in for a tough august, but we can see the light at the end of summer. _________________ Run! For your life.

this morning, vicki and i did a little speedwork. after getting in late from work last night and then staying up even later for election results, i was a little worried.
we did 5 total miles with 2 x 1600 and 800m jogs. we were supposed to be in the 8 min range, but we ended up with both being 7:40. we felt good so we just went with it!
vicki's still got it and don't let her tell you anything different!
tonight will be some biking and rowing at the gym. _________________ Run! For your life.

last night, there was no biking and rowing at the gym. i was so exhausted from several nights of bad sleep and the previous night working late, that i went home and crashed. i did not wake up to run this morning like i should have, and now i'm debating a workout after work. i don't know if it's the heat or just still being tired, but i'm not feeling very motivated.
i'm trying to listen to my body, but i'm also trying to not let lack of motivation play tricks with my mind. _________________ Run! For your life.

You can do it, girl! Just get out the door this evening when the temp. finally goes under 90 degrees. Just tell yourself to get out the door to run 2 miles easy, after you get started you may feel motivated to do more, if not, do what you can do. You are training too good now to let your motivation slow you down. Just do it!

i'm definitely going to the gym to do spin class. if i feel like i have legs afterward, i will hit the treadmill for at least 3. i will not be running outdoors probably at all. once i get home tonight, i am most likely not going out again.
hopefully i'll get something done. _________________ Run! For your life.

ok, ginny and raul, you motivated me to get it done. not only did i do my spin class, i got in my run. i actually got in the 5 miles my training said to do today. i managed it on the treadmill (shocking!) while listening to music and reading the subtitles on fox news. usually while on the treadmill, i play with the speed and do some interval type stuff. since today was an easy run, recovery day, i kept it on the same easy pace, but worked with the grade. really broke up the monotony of the treadmill.

I'm so proud of you getting that run done. You had me feeling guilty about not running with you this morning (even though you said you did not get yourself out of bed) because I ended up waking up at 4:45 am and I could have easily made the 5:30-5:45 that you had mentioned.
I ended up getting to the Trace just in time to see Keith as he was finishing his run. He looked as bad as I felt.
I was really tired and did not want to make my usual mistake of going out too fast. So, I forced myself to not look at my Garmin until I was feeling comfortable, which was about 1.5 miles. The pace was slower than usual, but I did not care. After all this discussion of heat and humidity and after Keith had just told me he had used my "save the workout" plan, I just wanted to cover the distance. Just after I turned around to head back to USM, Vicki's friend from Peru (can't think of her name) turned around and started running with me. Naturally, I picked up the pace and ended up doing 10:17 pace for the 5 miles. I just hoped to be under 10:30, so it was still a good pace for me. Tomorrow is a rest day and then on Saturday I'll run 8 miles with Vicki and the Peru lady.
Let's all really be careful with our running. This heat index can be deadly and we all have plenty of time to train for our marathons. The key is to know that we are working hard and getting the training effect, even though we may be slower or have to take walking breaks. Let's remember that we really are running for our lives. _________________ Becky Ryder

Way to go Dawn. I am proud of you. This forum really helps doesn't it? Something about having to go back and post that you didn't do the workout is sometimes enough to get me to start the workout. Normally, once you start, that is the hardest part of the battle ( this did not apply to this weeks Thurs. long run).
Raul, Raul - I am calling you out to get back on track with the workouts. I know you will be ready by the weekend to get that training in. Put on those fancy shoes of yours and get to it.

today is another rest day from running. i should do some cross training, but i might give my legs some rest. i have a bit of soreness in a hamstring that might need a break as well. i'm already hydrating for my 12 mile run tomorrow. i'm also making plans to have water with me and to get a powerade during the run. i'm too nervous about something gonig wrong! _________________ Run!
