Dawn's training

Postby dawn on Tue Jun 19, 2007 9:22 am

After a tough time at it on Saturday, I took Sunday off again for some extra rest and recovery. I also had to go visit my parent's. So, on Monday I was back at it, trying to get back into the swing of things.

I did a pretty solid, easy 4 miles before work. I still felt weak and breathy, especially near the end, but it was much better than Saturday. I also taught a very good 45 minute spin class yesterday after work. I had planned to lift a few weights, but after class I was pretty worn out so I headed home. Baby steps I guess!

Not sure what the plans for today are just yet. I'm not strong enough for speed work in the heat, if it doesn't rain, but we'll see!

MUCH better run this morning. Maybe I'm on the road to normalcy....

Yesterday afternoon, TOUGH spin class, and that was it due to the weather. I couldn't make myself hit the treadmill.

This morning, a solid 4 miles, and this afternoon will hit the bike and some weights.

There is something to listening to your body. I really believe it, although it's taken time and bad experiences for me to get here. This week, after missing over a week of workouts, I decided to spend the days just getting better and easing into things.

Yesterday afternoon, I spent 45 hard minutes on the bike after a good morning run, then did some weight lifting. This morning, I did another solid run before work and tonight, I'll teach spin and do some ab work. This weekend, I'll attempt a long run and just take it as it goes. This plan is working for me, and I'm hoping that next week will be almost back to normal.

Yes Raul, I will be hitting the marathon streets by the fall. No worries there!

after a surprisingly good run on Saturday with my lost long dawg, joni, i feel like i'm back on track. although, yesterday, i skipped a run because i was too lazy to get out of bed, and then a friend wanted to eat dinner. so after i taught a really difficult spin class, i chose food over running. after the day i had, i needed it.

this morning, i forced myself out of bed for good paced 6 miles on the trace. it was very humid, and i felt pretty drained near the end. nevertheless, i'm super proud of myself for getting up alone and getting that done. i am just a wimp as far as the afternoon heat.

tonight, since it's supposed to rain, i will most likely head to the gym to take a spin class, and possibly do weights.

I think I'm about spinned out this week! I don't think I have ever sweated as much as I did yesterday so needless to say, it was a great workout. I even felt a little sickly on my way home.

This morning, I got up and did a solid 5 miles. It didn't seem as humid as yesterday, but it still wasn't ideal. I now have two mornings where I woke up and ran on my own. That is significant since I hate the morning, and I haven't been able to be that disciplined in about a year or more.

Tonight, I'm not sure what kind of cardio I'll do, maybe an easy 30-45 on the bike. Then definitely some weights afterward.

Last night, I climbed back on the bike for a much less intense 45 minutes of just riding. I did vary my tensions and speeds at times to simulate a real road ride, and I definitely got a good workout. Afterward did some abs, including 50 regular crunches, 50 leg raises (6 inches), and 50 on each side of my obliques. I also did an upper body workout on weights.

This morning, I met Amber and Ginny at Canebrake for part of their long run. This humidity really has taken a toll on me this week, in addition to just trying to get caught back up. I felt good about my run, even though near the end I was panting. They were looking and feeling great, and I'm hoping to keep improving as well.

Tonight, if my legs aren't completely waisted, I will join the Thursday spin class and then go home!

I think some of my posts have disappeared!

Anyway, after a weekend of being really lazy, and I mean it, I got up this morning, without my Monday partner in crime, and did 6 good miles on the Trace.

Tonight, road 45 minutes, not too hard, with the one person who showed up for class. Good upper body weight workout.

Some days are good, some are bad, and some are just eh. Today was just eh. The first two miles of my 4 were pretty crappy, but I managed to find my stride on the last two. That was after a pretty tough spin class so maybe that had something to do with it.

As much as I didn't want to workout tonight, I did. I did 4 miles on the treadmill - .5 warm up - 3 miles of 2 min intervals while increasing the grade - .5 mile cool down. It was a good workout cause I was tired when I was done!

I managed 30 minutes on the bike. I would have gone 30, but my Ipod died, and I wanted to see the beginning of the Tour coverage tonight to hear the reports on all the scandal and drama. Truly disappointing.

I didn't get to run Thursday due to a LONG day of work, but I managed to talk Vicki into a 3 mile run after work. This morning, Joni, Vicki, and I ran 8 miles. Joni and I start training for Philly next week so we enjoyed this last weekend of 'light' running.
