Wow! 50 miles in one week?! That's incredible.

What exercises do you do for core work? That's something I'm adding to my training. Becky showed me several things to do, but I'm curious what you do.

P I L A T E S

Seriously, Susan...Pilates is all CORE WORK. And it is slow, controlled movements that you can do (or build up to). You can pick up DVD's that are as little as 20 minute Pilates workouts. Talk to me about this later.

Make to Trek the trace this next few weeks, and I here there might be a PILATES DEMO at one of those ;)

If you can't make that...come to one of my classes TUES and THURS at the Hattiesburg YMCA 10:30am.

Invisible Girl - no demo tonight PLEASE! I can't make it tonight and I really need the pilates demo.

Susan - I do a lot a different things, but mostly NOT CRUNCHES and NOT SIT UPS. I hate those so I try to do other things, although from time to time I do some. Some of it is yoga based. I do planks, moves similar to bicycling on your back, but slowed down - slow movements, bridge pose, side planks, ?? stomach twists with a weight in my hands, trying to keep hips stable and holding the core tight - I do these a lot. In the car, I simply try to hold my stomach tight - I drive a lot. Back extensions - they say to be sure to do as much back work, as stomach, or you will become out of balance (or something - the teachers can help here). Also, a lot of yoga poses that require ab muscles, head stands, working toward hand stands (long way to go). Yogis help?? - the pose where you put your knees on the tops of your elbows??? I also work on one of those big workout balls - I do a few crunches on those, and I am working on putting my feet on top of the ball in bridge pose and pulling the ball toward me and away - this one you start out on your back.

A new challenge - this one you are facing the floor, I can not do this one at all right now. Feet on top of the ball, arms in push up position on the floor - so far I can't even manage that. Eventually, I hope to be able to pull the ball close to me and away from me with my feet (saw a tri athlete doing these on Fit TV this weekend)

Others too - will post more as I think of them. I do like to mix it up so that I do not get bored, and to keep the abs guessing, I suppose.

Any of the named poses above, you can google to see pics.

Thanks for the tips! I went to a body sculpting class on Monday and plan to go again this evening. I'm pretty much sore from my knees to my shoulders. Not so I can't move, but a good sore. I have a ball (inflated even), but have never used it. :? Hoping I can change that. It's hard to have time to do classes when I work full time and work out six days a week. That doesn't leave much time for other things. That's why it's important for me to maximize my time at home when I'm just chillin'. Becky suggested I do some planks and other things she showed me during tv. I'm gonna try that. Thanks again! You are doing awesome with your training.

My favorite yoga pose modified. Excellent for runners!

Postby Ginny on Thu Aug 20, 2009 6:42 pm

All runners - be sure to look at this. This is the best pose for runners. I normally do it on the floor, but today, thanks to http://www.fitsugar.com, I came across the excellent modification.
