Today was the first time I've ran since the Saturday 5K. My time really got me down so I refused to run. Let me just say, my body has been rebelling every since. I have no energy what so ever. And I've been in a foul moody since Monday. I admit, if nothing else, I should've just walked the last two days. The workout today was beyond pitiful. I managed .8 miles running, then had to stop and walk. God it was torture outside, I couldn't get my breath, and the sweat, it was like it was 99 degrees out there. So I gave up and walked the rest of the 3.1 miles. I think I would've been better to have gone on the track inside, flat as it may be, I would've at least got the running time in.

Oh and I think I know what is going on with the sick feeling. At about 1.5 miles, I stopped for water. I was walking mind you, so there was no reason for me to get sick. It wasn't but a few seconds after that I became really sick to my stomach. So Sheryl, I'm going to try taking a powerade with me or putting some recovery powder in my water. I think it's the water, because I'm so hot, the water hitting my stomach that cold is the culprit. I'll try it in the morning and see if that is the problem. If not, I'm back to square one, and I'll try other things.

Good morning everyone! Only one more day of the work week, woohoo. I live for the weekends, sad I know. Karen and I went for a run/walk this morning before the world woke up. For those of you who don't know Karen, I learned something new about her this morning - she's a very patient person. She walked when I needed to, and made me run when she heard my breathing even out. :)

We mananged 2.77 miles in 39:16. Next week, my goal is to run 2 miles with her before stopping to walk, regardless.

Running this morning means I don't have to do it at lunch, woohoo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :P

Have a nice weekend....

I did it! I ran a complete 3 miles without stopping. It wasn't without it's challenges though. About a mile in, my right side started hurting, so I slowed down about 10 secs for about 5 mins and it went away. No sooner than the right side stopped hurting, the left side started, so I slowed down and repeated the above. Then I realized there was no side pain, and I hadn't stopped, I wasn't sick to my stomach, and I was doing it. I almost started to pick up the pace, and I thought better of it because my only goal yesterday was to run the 3 without stopping - and I did it! Woohoo! I'm excited. Now if only I can pull the same off tomorrow when Karen and I run in the morning. Speaking of running in the a.m., any advise on how to layer to stay warm, but not over-heat?

Would you like to know the key to my 3 miles non-stop? Really? I had music blaring in my ears and I couldn't hear myself breath, so I couldn't say, I'm breathing too hard I have to stop. I just listened to my body, when I hurt somewhere, I gave it a 10-20 sec slow down. Something else I did that may have had an effect of the results, I had a "love it" Berries from Stone Cold Creamery about 2 1/2 hours before going to the track. It's yogurt 'ice cream', and according to the ladies there, it's ~100 calories a serving. I didn't ask what a serving size was, but I will find out today.

I haven't had time to figure what my time was. When I do, I'll post it, good or bad, I'm just excited I did it. Now I know I can do it, I just have to have the music in the ears.

I'll let you guys know how tomorrow morning goes.

Over and out.... :D

Nice run last night! Way to go!

Running in the cold is tricky. I have a tendency to over dress because it's hard to "get out the door" if I am cold. It IS a mistake though. Chad (my hubby) says you should be cold at the start so that you are comfortable later, which is a better plan, but for me hard to do. I typically wear light layers that I can take off and tie around my waste as I get hot. I also use some gloves that I purchase at Dollar General - cheap. Of course, you can buy expensive gloves too. When it gets really cold I wear headbands that cover my ears. Sometimes, if I wear the gloves and the headband, I can talk myself into wearing less at the beginning so that I do not get to hot later. Then I just pull the headband down, off of my ears, when I warm up and take the gloves off if needed.

The main thing is to rarely let the cold or the heat stop you.

Thank you D. I'll sure tell the parents you said hello. We would love for you to stop by if you ever get a chance. We'll drink coffee and sit outside and watch my chickens do chicken things. Oh I have two new babies... :) they are precious and so tiny.

Karen and I met at 5:00 this morning and went for a run. We did our 3.1 miles plus a little more, in 40 mins and a few seconds. I stopped one time and that was to tie my shoe, the long pants must have moved it around such that it came loose. Next time, I'll double knot them, so that doesn't happen again. Karen is great at this, she knows when to push me a little harder to keep me from slowing down. I wore long pants, and long sleeves and had a sweater on, it was just enough to keep me from getting cold from the sweat. Next time, I will wear a light pair of gloves.

The run was invigorating! I'm still going on the high from making it under 40 on the 3.1. Karen has been a tremendous role model and I work off of the drive to please people, so I'm working toward getting faster, so I'm not holding Karen back. She's been a real sport about the pace. THANK YOU KAREN!

Getting up at 4:30 to run so early hasn't hit me yet. It just means I get to bed a little earlier today. I'm finding I definitely prefer running in the morning as compared to lunch and after work. I have so much energy and I feel mentally better.

Anyway, everyone already knows the benefits of running early, so I'll stop here. :)

Now we start to shave off some of my time. I'm just excited to know I did it without stopping two days now. The sky's the limit now!!!!

Over and out...

As promised, the time for this past Tuesday's run was 3.11 in 34.17. Geez, I didn't realize it was that good. Compare Tuesday to Thursday's run and I lost anywhere from 4-6 mins on the inclines. Tuesday was at Thames and Thursday's was on an old 5K route with some inclines, that I love to call hills when I'm running. They kill me!

I hope everyone has a nice weekend.

Holy Moses, Mary and Joseph! The triathlon I was prepared for, the bike falling about I wasn't. I wish, I wish, I wish.... Oh well, the one part I was scared to death of, I pulled off without a hitch, thanks to Dewey Case at the Y. I'm taking the bike back to the bike shop today and have them re-fix what they had apparently fixed when I took it in for a tune up. It was my mistake, I failed to check behind them, so I can only give them 1/2 the blame...smile. The other half was due to my freakin' body shutting down in the rain, gotta love this fibro and uncle art, they are always willing to spoil the fun.

Other than that, I caught myself laughing every time I passed a buoy. I was making forward progress and wasn't having any real trouble, except for the dude who almost drown me. His downward stroke caught me in the back of the head, bad luck for him, he was too close, so I put my fingers in his tickle hole, laugh. He didn't find it funny, but I did! I wonder if that qualifies as bad sportsmanship????

Anyway, I hit the running thing all out tomorrow morning with Karen, so we'll see what happens from here. I want to do the 20K in March, but I need Coach to get back so I can get me a training schedule going. I have to start twice as early to allow the body time to adjust to all the miles.

I have to get back to work, but before I do, I would like to say, "Congrats Laura and Susan and anyone else who did the tri and I didn't see you there! You ladies were awesome. You are my heroes!"

Melissa,

What went wrong with your bike? When you take it back to the shop you might want to get them to check the fit. When I saw you leave the transition it looked to me as if your seat was too low. You want to be able to extend your legs further for better efficiency - especially on a hilly course. Anyway, check with the bike shop and see what they think.

Yeah. I realized they had moved my seat when I was able to swing my leg over at T1 and after I rounded the curve I stopped and raised it up. The bike was a comedy of errors on my part. I took it in to have it serviced, and when I got it home I took it out of the back of the truck, put it in the shed and covered it up. I never checked to see if the seat was right and if the pedal thingys bolts were all tight. Turned out, it had one nut holding the entire part together (that was pre-assembled, so the person who put it on my bike didn't check to see that all the pre-assembled parts were right and tight) and as I turned the pedal round and round the one nut turned loose and my foot slipped right through at the 11.5 mile mark. Then I tried riding it, but I was pushing and pulling with my bad knee, so I got off and walked (I didn't want to ride in, I was bull-headed and should've rode in, and just ran the run and been done with it). My knee holds out good if I am equally pushing and pulling, but one-sided, not so much, I didn't wear my brace because I didn't think anything would happen - dumb *ss, I know.

Needless to say the bike shop has promised to look at all pre-assembled parts prior to, and after, assembly on their end. And next time, Melissa will check eveything twice, in the shop, before I leave with it. I can't believe I was so studpid!

After I got home Saturday, I was kicking my butt for not going ahead and at least trying to run the 5K, but my friend (who happens to be my doctor's nurse) said I would've done more damage to the knee had I continued. I have to get it behind me and remember I can't change anything now. I had control Saturday and I lost it, it was one big head game, and I'm no good at those. Honestly, I feel like one big huge loser, but that is my hurdle to get over, and I will, eventually.

And maybe get the courage up to do it again next year, we'll see.

Yeah, you need to clear that "big huge loser" hurdle because you are a winner. Some, no most people won't even attempt a triathlon - even some of our very prestigious and successful Pacers! The biggest reason people won't try a triathlon is the swim, and YOU DID IT! You have what it takes to be a triathlete because you have heart. Don't wait til the EagleMan next year. There will be lots of sprint triathlons close enough to Hattiesburg to do. Maybe we can do one together. Anyway, I applaud your efforts and if you don't clear that loser hurdle, I'm gonna push you over it! LOL Great effort, Melissa!

Susan plz don't push too hard. I'm over it, well almost over it. I'm a perfectionist and Saturday wasn't even close, it just takes me a bit to stop punishing myself. Thank you for the encouraging words. I have thought about finding me another one and doing it before I have time to talk myself out of the Eagleman next year. :)

Today I'm headed to the nat to get in a few laps. I haven't done anything since Saturday, shameful, I know, but with every joint screaming and muscles trying to take charlie horses, I just decided, "naw, ain't happenin'". The joints and muscles are about 90% normal, so it is back to exercising.

Karen and I strike out in the morning, pending no rain, and it is back to running for me. The malfunctions on the run I can control, thank you God for small miracles.

So I read your comments about the tri, and then I was on Twitter and came across these great quotes. Had to come back and post them for you.

"Anyone who has never made a mistake has never tried anything new." - Albert Einstein

"I've failed over and over and over again in my life and that is why I succeed." - Michael Jordan

Keep it up. New adventures always come with a learning curve. That's part of the fun, and what about the memories you will have to look back on your first attempt. "It's all good!"

Thanks Ginny, I will definitely print these off and put them where I can see them everyday. :)

I didn't go to the gym yesterday, I went and ate sushi for lunch and by 5:00 I was too tired to go, as I knew I would be. Then I was suppose to get up this morning at 4:30 and meet Karen at 5:00 and somehow or 'other I managed to turn OFF both alarm clocks and didn't get up until 6:30. I went to bed with a migraine and had meds on board, so I'm blaming the opsy on that. I felt so bad for 'standing her up'. I really didn't meant to, and well make it up to her on Saturday morning.

I am going to the gym today at lunch, then tomorrow and then Saturday, so that should put me back on schedule and I'll start fresh next week with my normal routine - running M, T, W, Th, Sat and swimming T, Th, F.

Gotta get back to work, argh.
