Best of luck to Ginny Dufrene and any other Pacers planning to run tomorrow. The area around Ridgeland looks very nice based on my visit up there a couple of weeks ago, so it should be an attractive course.

Kick butt, Ginny!!!

water, water and more water

Postby ryderruns on Fri Jun 27, 2008 2:19 pm

If you haven't already starting hydrating, get with it. No amount of training will make up for being dehydrated. The conditions for tomorrow's event will be very difficult. Drink a lot this afternoon, then back off in the evening so you will be able to sleep. Then, as soon as you arise, drink 20 or so ounces. Continue to drink moderately until about 15 minutes til the start of the race. At that time, drink another 10-20 ounces. Take advantage of the water stations.

Take it easy in the beginning and then hang on at the end. All of you who are doing this are tough and you can endure. Good luck on finishing strong.

I just picked up my packet and arrived at the hotel. I am looking forward to tomorrow's race. I'm hoping the rain holds off and tomorrow's weather is favorable (currently there are storms all around here). If we are really lucky the rain will have brought some cooler weather, but normally it just brings more humidity.

Well I had better go and begin drinking as per Becky's instructions. If I time it right, the hangover won't kick in until after the race.

Later,
Terry

Terry - sounds like, as I would expect, your pre race strategy is well thought out. You probably thought of this as well, but assuming you 'hydrate' with mass quantities of malt beverages, it takes care of the need to 'carbo load,' too.

What a magnificent day for a race. The rain stayed away and for the end of June, the weather was not that bad. Yeah it was little hot and a little humid but it could have been much worse. Heck, the sun even had pity on us and stayed behind the clouds for most of the race.

Almost 800 runners showed up to run the Renaissance At Colony Park Half Marathon. The race started promptly at 6:00 a.m. and we were off. The course was scenic and well controlled, the water stops were plentiful, and as you would expect, it was a little hilly.

I didn’t see any Pacers before the race but caught up with Ginny, Jodi and Joni after the race. Ginny said she had a good day and ran better than she expected, and Joni ran with Jodi as Jodi completed her first half marathon.

After the race there was plenty of (cold) water, bananas, oranges, bagels, etc. to help us replenish and recuperate. This was a great race and I will certainly keep it on my list of races to participate in the future.

I also wanted to say congrats to Terry. That is awesome to finish so fast and with a hurt foot. Hoping your recover is a speedy so that you will soon be back to the races. Terry - you mentioned a 5k back home, where is home?

Home is Bossier City, Louisiana (across the river from Shreveport). Mitzie and the kids left Friday morning and will be there all week - that is why they weren't there for the race yesterday.

Yesterday was the first time I ever won money in a race. I told Mitzie I was thinking about quitting my job and running full time, but after some discussion we figured $250 every 6 years wouldn't really support us.

WOW!! I feel like I am in the presence of Royalty!! How cool is that? I guess you have to give up your amateur status now, train in the mountains, and get Nike to sponsor your training.

Sorry for your foot, but you will bounce back fast. Congrats on your race.
