Postby ryderruns on Thu May 15, 2008 3:49 pm

It's official---the Hattiesburg Family Y will be sponsoring an indoor/outdoor triathlon sprint on Saturday July 12. The entry form and additional information will soon be posted on the Pacer website. I do know that it will consist of the following:

400 yard swim in the pool
15 mile bike on Star Trac Spinners
5K run outdoor

Registeration fee is $15.00 and t-shirts are guaranteed to first 50 registrants. The contact people for additional information are Nan Bryant 601-583-4000 and Amy Thraxton 601-583-9399.

y-tri in july

The classes on Tuesday and Thursday will be identical. I will be going over some VERY BASIC cross training/ triathlon preperation & planning. I will present some suggested training plans to prepare for this sprint distance triathlon. I will discuss time management and training, equipment, training and racing strategies, stretching, and strength training. If anyone has questions or suggested topics of discussion please let me know. Thanks! BEN HUGHES

Awards/prizes

Postby ryderruns on Mon Jun 16, 2008 12:13 pm

I think the people at the Y are trying to make this a good event and I hope that some of our "super-fit" members plan on competing. I do know that the run portion will be up Hiway 11 and some loop through Timberton and back to the Y.

I also want to let everyone know that the Y has requested the use of our clock. Either Hollie, Ben or I will be responsible.

Two waves full

Postby ryderruns on Sat Jul 05, 2008 9:52 am

The race director for the YTri says that the 1st and 2nd waves are full, but there are a few spots left in the 3rd wave. If you plan on doing this, you need to get yourself entered.

Just curious.... what equipment do we need?
Let's see my list of items: googles & compression shorts for the swim; running shorts over the other shorts, my running shoes, and 1-2 t-shirts for the bike and the 5k run; a towel, a water bottle, and maybe a pack of gu energy! What else would be good to take with me?

Big Deal

Postby ryderruns on Fri Jul 11, 2008 3:02 pm

This YTri may turn out to be a big deal. I just drove home and there were city workers putting out orange barrels, with tape between them all along the shoulder of the road between the Y and Timberton. I'm glad somebody has influence with the city. We can't even get them to provide a police escort for our Labor Your Legs. Maybe this year it will happen, although I'll not hold my breath.
