On Thursday, May 7 at 6:00 pm at the Sigler Center, the City of Hattiesburg Parks and Recreation Advisory Board will be hosting a workshop regarding the development of an area-wide pathway plan. The workshop will focus on creating a network of greenway trails, biking/jogging lanes, bike routes and sidewalks in our area.
The workshop will include presentations from local and national trail advocates. Bill Lane, a landscape architect with the National Park Service in Atlanta will lead the discussion on community benefits of pathways. Through the Rivers, Trails and Conservation Assistance Program, Bill has assisted in the establishment of many pathway advocacy groups across the country.
The vision of creating a network of interconnected pathways relies on the cooperation of all citizens in the Hattiesburg area. If your interested in creating a system of trails, lanes and routes that you and future generations can enjoy, please attend this initial meeting.
The Sigler Center is located at 315 Conti Street in Hattiesburg. If you have questions about this meeting, please contact Bill Kuyrkendall at (601) 582-2182, Ann Jones (601) 545-4667 or Bill Lane at 1-888-333-1791.
I plan on attending the meeting and I would encourage all of you to also be there. This is a project that has the possibility to positively impact running/walking/biking in the Hattiesburg area. The more people we have involved in this project, the more likely we are to see that the plan is something that will meet our needs.
I'm sorry for the short notice on this. Today is the first time I became aware of this meeting. Contact me if you have questions.
