DOGS - Question?

DOGS - Question?

Postby Ginny on Mon Jun 15, 2009 6:32 pm

I have a friend that has just started biking again, and she was almost attacked by 2 large dogs in country, out from Petal. Anyway, she asked me if I thought pepper spray would be effective. I do not know. I have never tried it.

I thought some of you runners and especially some of the triathletes might have a good answer. I know from personal experience that dogs are worse for bikers than runners, but bad for everyone if they are aggressive.

Please post any recommendations.

I have used it effectively on dogs in the past. I just hate carrying it cuz I am a klutz sometimes, and I am afraid I will spray myself. However, when I have carried it in the past, I was half tempted to spray the owners rather than the dogs!! :)
Catch you on the run!! Audrey

We live on a rural country road and had to deal with this problem last week. Our neighbors got a new dog and it had got to a point that no one could pass by their home without being attacked. We called the Sheriff to get his advice, he recommend first to go and talk with them and kindly ask them to tie the dog up or get rid of him. If we did not feel comfortable talking to them or if we did talk to them and they would not deal with the dog, his department would come out and talk with them. He said that they were more steps we could take beyond this if these did not work. Luckily for us we went and talked with them and they got rid of the dog, said that it had even tried to attack them over the past few weeks.
