JohnH - what a great race for you. 8-10 min. PR - Awesome! Can't imagine what you will be up to when it's cooler this fall. Keep up that training, it's really working well for you.

Post your workouts. We love to see what others are doing.

This was a really fun race! It was my first half and it was such a cool event from start to finish. I also wanted to say my Garmin showed 13.44, so it was definitely on the long side! On the positive, the sun stayed behind the clouds for most of the race! Thanks for posting the results Raul!!!

JMarshall - congrats on completing your first half, in fine fashion too, well under 2:00 for the 13.1. Way to go.

Yeah!!! I survived. I hate I missed everyone after the race. I went with some great friends and I met a few more friends in the process.

Ginny you told me just before the race to have fun. Guess what? That is exactly what I did. I was a little disappointed in myself but when I looked at my results this morning I was right on the pace that I usually run. My overall time was 2:50:18 which I finished before the 3 hour mark that I was really shooting for. I had hydrated real well and was proud of myself for that. I really didn't crash until 11.5 miles and I decided to stop and walk/run then I was able to run into the finish line. I think the hills rather than the heat got me the most.

When I saw Ginny and Audrey at the start line I could tell Audrey was fixing to (as Tinker says) "kick butt, take names and chew bubble gum." I am really excited for everyone that had a good race and I hope to be able to learn more from you all as I learn more and more about running.

I hope to try that race again in the future with my goal to finish without walking any of the 13.1 miles and to finish a little faster. Who knows a marathon may be in my future as I start to feel more comfortable with training for halfs.

Congratulations to all.

Karen, you did great!! Always listen to Ginny, she got me through the first part of the race, which set up the success for me to finish the race according to the plan. I am glad you enjoyed this race and that it was a good experience. You will just get stronger from here on out!!
Catch you on the run!! Audrey

We were right about the distance of the course. This quote was in an email I received yesterday from Mark Simpson of Marathon Makeover:

This Saturday we heard reports from many of you that the course ran long. Although we never advertised or claimed that our course was certified, we had hired a USATF Course Certifier to measure the course and give us a certified course. He road the course twice on his bike and came up with 13.1 miles riding the straightest of tangents.

When he painted the course for cone setup, he marked the turnaround past mile three one section too far - adding two tenths of a mile to the course. Many of you noticed that the splits were different from miles three to four and brought that to my attention. At the time, the only thing I could go on was the word of our certifier and defended the length. I have driven the course and see the discrepancy at miles three and four and apologize. This will not happen again and I appreciate your graciousness. We will review the complete course and have a fully certified course for 2009!

I actually measured it 3/10 of a mile long, but I'll settle for an admission of 2/10. It's nice to see them admitting there was an issue. That alone makes me more likely to do the race in October.
