Another slow week! Yesterday, I went to the trace to compete in the Kappa Delta 5K Run. Since I had been running very much in the previous week, I did OK. What is's funny is that I got the Masters title since everyone else was sick, stayed in home or went to another race.
This morning I was lazy and didn't go out to face the cold conditions.

Anyway, this is what I did during this week. It was a combination of recovery, days off, and resting (shame on me!) -->

Mon: Rest
Tue: 2.5m running
Wed: OFF
Thu: Rest
Fri: OFF
Sat: 5m run (including 5K Run Kappa Delta race, 21:54)
Sun: recovery, off, and rest!

Because of some intensive field work and since I don't have any particular running goal in the near future, I am getting kind of lazy with the whole training. Anyway, after my last post three weeks ago, I have tried to keep running at least 3 days a week (each day the first mile is boring, but once I warm up, the training gets better!). I have run an average of 15 miles weekly including two 10K races, the Crescent City Classic in 47:13 and the Azalea Train Run in 48:13 last Saturday. I went for a long run (8m) yesterday. Let's see whether I can continue doing a long run per week.

Maybe I will be back on my feet next week. This was another one week with not consistant work. At the end it went as follows:

Mon: OFF
Tue: 2.5m running
Wed: 3.5m running
Thu: 3m running
Fri: OFF
Sat: 8m run (including 2 5k races 22:36 in the morning, 22:02 later on!)
Sun: OFF

It seems that my running times are coming back to those in 2006. I got the peak performance and the plateau during the Mardi Gras Marathon; then I went downhill. There is a solution to improve my times... It is called "SPEED WORK" -- However, I am too lazy to do it, so I will have to get accustomed to my "2005-2006like" finish times.

I have been running very little during the last couple of weeks. I will probably keep this post just once a month from now on. If not, it is going to look something like OFF, OFF, OFF, OFF!!!

For example, this week I just went on Wednesday for a 3m walk and on Friday for a 6m bike. On Saturday I walked in Prentiss (5K 31:41 PR) in the morning and ran in Jackson in the afternoon (5K 23:30, the worst time in years!). Today, I am sore everywhere. All other days were OFF, off, off.

Let's try again! Do you think I will be back?
I'm getting too lazy!

Here is my update

Jul 14 - Aug 25: OFF, eating and gaining weight
Aug 26: 2m run (predicted time! it took me 20 minutes to finish the 2 m!)
Aug 27 - Sep 5: OFF .... I just can't do it!
Sep 6: Let's try to come back again..... 4.1 miles in Ellisville, MS

I ran the Second Annual Bobcat 5K Run/Walk & 1 Mile Fun Run. There were a lot of people there, and they had a great organization. What about my race? I managed to run the first mile in 7:15 and then.... just quickly slowed down and tried to survive and finish the race. I did it in 24:36. It was not the best performance but good enough to place third in my age group -- I was just lucky that the overall and Masters winners were in my age group and that all the fastest guys were a little younger or older than I :D
Anyway... let's see whether I am ready to start running again. By the way, the race was just 2 hours ago, and my legs are already quite sore (I'm getting rusty :) )

Hello Raul,

So glad that you are back to the races. We have been missing you at the races and the forum. You can do it! You will be back, better than ever, in no time. Maybe a little training in between races, ok? Thanks for the report. Take you an ice bath, it will help with those sore muscles.

I''ll be back baby!......eventually some day!

OK, first week of a slow beginning; I am a "New Born Runnerian". I ran the Labor Your Legs 5K in 25:00 yesterday. As happened last week, I did a good first mile and then had to switch gears to "survival mode" to be able to finish the race. My times look like those I used to do for the distance when I was heavier and started running a couple of years ago. Today, I did my first long sloooooooooooooooooooooooooooooow run this morning, a 8m run, at a 10:30 pace (and 2 stops!). Well... I will be back to my 2006-2008 times; hopefully by 2012!

Here is my week of training

Mon: 3m running
Tue: 3m running
Wed: 6m bike hilly course
Thu: 3m running
Fri: OFF
Sat: 3.1m running (5k race in 25:00)
Sun: 8m long run at the Trace

I felt much better this week (at least I don't get sore after a workout anymore!) -- Yesterday, I ran 10m with Dawn and Vicki at the Trace... and I survived. Although I am running and training again, the needle on the bathroom scale keeps creeping upward (2 more lb this week) and refuses to head downward (average 1 lb/week gain in the last 2 months!) -- Well... I guess I am not a spring chicken anymore, and everything I eat is converted into fat!

Here is my log for the week -->

Mon: 6.5m bike hilly course
Tue: 3.5m running
Wed: OFF
Thu: 2.5m running
Fri: 6.5m bike hilly course
Sat: 10m long run
Sun: 6m run at the Trace

Nothing special for me; I am still running between 18-20 miles per week. I have really enjoyed the cooler temperatures during the week!

As I said before, don't put too much attention to my "biking skills in hilly courses". It is just a 20-30 minute workout in the stationary bikes at the YMCA or USM.

Mon: 6.5m bike hilly course
Tue: 3.5m running
Wed: OFF
Thu: 2.5m running
Fri: 9m bike hilly course
Sat: 6.5m long run in the Garden District in New Orleans
Sun: 6m run at the Trace

Another week of "training" goes! Yesterday, I completed my first real triathlon in the Heritage Eagleman Triathlon. I did a slow swim (17:49) but felt great. I think I can swim for hours but.... in sloooow motion. Then, I went for the bike. Wow! Did I do good? NOT!!! (1:08:41). I suck as a cyclist, little old grannies on their Huffy's (insert name of whatever the Kmart brand bike is in your area) passed me going up hills ;) -- Then, I did a little better in the 3m run, but I had already lost more than 20 minutes with everyone else in the previous 2 events. Next time, I participate in a triathlon, I will look for a buddy who can bike and make a team. I would not mind to swim and run, but the "Lance Amstrong" in me is at least 125 years old.

I jogged 5m this morning in the Trace. I was so tired that I did not try to run anything faster than a 10:45 pace. I apologize to Kily whom I met in mile four. He invited me to join him in his 16m journey, but I was already falling apart and ready to finish any exercise for the week.

This week went as folllows -->

Mon: 30 minutes bike, 1/3M swim
Tue: 3m run
Wed: 1/3m swim
Thu: 2m run
Fri: OFF
Sat: 1/3M swim, 16.5 bike, 3m run Heritage Eagleman Triathlon (1:54:47)
Sun: 5m jogging at the Trace

Colder weather?...better runs! - I went yesterday to Ellisville to participate in the Rotary Fest 5K race in a flat course. I finished in 22:35 and was glad with my time. This is the fist time I break 23 minutes for the distance in the last 6 months. After stopping exercising for a couple of months in April, once I came back to run, I could manage to finish a 5K race under 24-25 minutes. I hope I can improve a little more or at least to keep the same level of performance for the rest of the year. I went to the Trace for a 10m run this morning and enjoyed it very much. Definitely, I feel much better when temperatures drop below the 70ºF mark.

The week went as follows -->

Mon: OFF
Tue: 3.5m running
Wed: 6.5m Stationary bike
Thu: 3m running
Fri: 6m Stationary bike
Sat: 4.5m run (including 5k race at Ellisville 22:35)
Sun: 10m long run at the Trace
