Raul's Training Schedule

Any topic related to running

Postby Raul on Sun Nov 09, 2008 10:45 am

Coming back from another running break, I went to Henleyville, MS yesterday to run in the Pearl River Ramble event. I ran the 5k; my excuse was that I could be sooner at the finish line to help collecting the labels for both races, tabulating the results , and blah-blah-blah (Well...in fact, since I had not run anything in the previous 12 days, I was not sure whether I would be able to complete the 10 K race  ) -- I ran the 5k in 23:30. I guess It was OK considering it was a hilly and challenging course. This morning I went to the Trace for a 9m long run. I t was cold but good to run a steady and slow pace.

The last "2 weeks of training" went as follows:

Mon 27: 30 minutes bike
Tue 28: 3.5m run
Wed 29: OFF
Thu 30: OFF
Fri 31: OFF
Sat 1: OFF
Sun 2: OFF
Mon 3: OFF
Tue 4: OFF
Wed 5: OFF
Thu 6: OFF
Fri 7: OFF
Sat 8: 5K Run at Henleyville, MS (23:30)
Sun 9: 9m long run at the Trace

Very Consistent

Very consistent training---off, off, off...

I am always amazed at how fast you can run on so little training. Just think how fast you would be if you followed a plan; or maybe not.

ok Raul - after reading your training and then reading Becky's comments, at first I was thinking yeah, Becky is right, it is amazing how he runs fast with so little training. Then I was thinking it over, and had to log back on to say, it is actually disgusting. I train like a crazy person, your log is off, off, off, fast race time. :x Maybe I need to try your training schedule instead of mine.

hehe! It was funny Ginny. Seriously, I have to start working a little harder. I have been gaining weight steadily for the last couple of months, and now, I can feel those extra-pounds pushing my down when I am jogging or walking around.
Never ever follow my program! -- In fact, I admire all of you guys for being so consistent and disciplined with your training programs. Someday, I will too!

This was a good week. I can't even remember when the last week that I ran more than 25 miles was. Can you believe I did not have any "OFF" days? -- Well.... it's not going to be for a long time (I will be busy next weekend)
Yesterday, I ran in Petal the Rotary 5K. The "speed" for me is definitely gone, but I had a good time and met with a lot of pacers. Tony and Millie Mozingo, Charles J., Terry I, Dr Jonh Harsh, Kily G., Richie and Anita Sumrall, Neil Solomon, Phillip Reynolds, Janis Cook, Jodie Lee, Kelly Marzoni and some other friends were present. I finished the 5K in 23:50 (I think). This morning I went to the Trace to do a 12m long run. I missed the turn around point and got to the place where the US flag is located. Si I finished running something like 13.2m (good! I completed the half marathon and a little extra  ) -- It was coooooold, but it helped me to run faster without getting tired in the middle of the course.

My week went as follows --->

Mon: 25 minutes in the bike (hilly course)
Tue: 3.5m running
Wed: 3 m running
Thu: 2.5m running
Fri: 25 minutes in the bike (hilly course)
Sat: 5m run (including 5k race 23:50 in Petal,MS)
Sun: 13.2m long run at the Trace

Great week!! It is so difficult to get in good runs this time of year, especially as busy as you are with school. It is darker earlier, and brrrr, colder!! When I was a high school/college runner, I just took the winter off. Of course I was younger then, and I could bounce back easy in the spring. Now, not so much. I have to try and keep running, or I may never start up again!! Anyway, scheduling those weekend runs with fellow Pacers help keep me going. Keep up the good runs/training!! Good luck with your school requirements. I know that it has to be the number one priority.
Catch you on the run!! Audrey

Well.... I can't believe it (yes, I can  ) .... but endurance and speed are gone (forever?). I got the worst finish time ever for the 2 distances I ran these week. First, I finished the 5m in the Hobble then Gobble in more than 42 minutes and the Gulf Coast Half Marathon in 2:07. Even when I was heavier (close to 200lb) and just jumped from race to race with not training in between a couple of years ago, I used to be able to have faster times. I guess I will have to get accustomed to the new runner in me  -- I will wait another 35 years to qualify for Boston!

The last 2 weeks went as follows:

Mon 17: 30 minutes bike
Tue 18: 3.5m run
Wed 19: 25 minutes bike
Thu 20: 3m run
Fri 21: OFF
Sat 22: OFF
Sun 23: OFF
Mon 24: 2m run
Tue 25: 4m run
Wed 26: 30 minutes bike
Thu 27: 5m run (Hobble Then Gobble 5m in 42:30)
Fri 28: OFF
Sat 29: 13.5m run (Gulf Coast Half Marathon 2:07:35)
Sun 30: OFF

This week was good in general. I could not do a lot of exercise but had a happy ending in the Baton Rouge Half Marathon. On the other hand, I am still gaining weight; I added another pound to my spare tire. Well... I hope I can stop it soon before start rolling everywhere (Christmas time is coming... not a good sign!)

My week went as follows:

Mon: OFF
Tue: OFF
Wed: 3m running
Thu: 3m running
Fri: 20 minutes in the bike (hilly course)
Sat: 13.1m run (1:46:33 in Baton Rouge Half Marathon --> new PR at 187lb!
Sun: OFF

This was another good week for running. I went yesterday to Madison to run the half marathon. We aere crazy people! The temperature at the start of the race was 29ºF with strong winds (at least 5º lower!). I don't know why I went. I had been fighting a cold for a couple of days, and weather conditions were not the best. Anyway, I did and have a good time. As Ginny commented Neil, Kelly, and her set new PRs. I settled for 1:48:51. This morning I went to the trace I ran 5 easy miles.

The week went as follows -->

Mon: 3m run
Tue: 3.5m run
Wed: 3 m run
Thu: 4.5m run
Fri: OFF (maybe 1 mile walking)
Sat: 13.5m run (including Madison Half Marathon 1:48:51)
Sun: 5m run at the Trace

Driving...

Postby ryderruns on Sun Dec 28, 2008 7:34 pm

Dare I ask why you are driving around the South? As far as your running goes, it looks pretty good to me. You had more days of running than days of rest. Are you finally on a training program?

Another long run is done! I did 19 miles last week and 16.5m yesterday at the Trace plus a 6m run recovery early today and a bunch of miles in between during the weekdays for the last couple of weeks. No pain, no cramps, no potty problems, no cuts, no blisters or chafting anywhere!! :D
Looking good! looking good!! 8)

Where is Raul?

Postby ryderruns on Sun Jan 25, 2009 10:54 am

Where is the Raul that we all know and love---the one who can race well, with not much training? When will you be displaying the results of this intense training? I will be eagerly awaiting the results.

Well... I'm still deciding between running the Antarctica Ice Marathon, the Pike Peak Marathon, and the Great Wall Marathon!
Which one should suit me better?
