I think I am now ready for Napa Valley!! 8)

I had another good week of training. I ran a bunch of miles during the week (I quit counting them!) and then added another 14m on Sunday including the half marathon distance of the Mardi Gras Marathon at New Orleans. I got a new PR and felt good... but very tired after the race.

Still looking good...looking good! What should I do next?

As Ginny, I tend to train (and/or run) for distance races during the fall and winter. I had planned to finish my "distance race calendar" with the participation in the Half Mardi Gras Marathon last Sunday. However, I am physically, mentally and emotionally feeling so well and confident that I may try to run a whole marathon soon, and that's it! - NO more racing for a while! 8)

I may be too optimistic, but I believe I will do OK this time. If I can keep a steady pace for the first 13.1m of the course... first, I will avoid hitting the wall in the last miles, and second, I think I can run the remaining 13.1m one minute slower per mile in average than the first one. My Math skills may be wrong, but it looks like the following scenario is possible:

- If I manage to run the first half in 1:52, I could do the second half in 2:05-2:06..... breaking at the end the 4 hour mark!
- If I run around 1:46 the first 13.1m, I would run 1:59-2:00 the second, crossing the finish line in 3:45-3:46!! (maybe I am just nuts!!).
- What if it's cold, and I have a great running day? 1:40-1:42? Mmmmm... I am just daydreaming about a memorable and unforgettable performance.

Coach Ryder, what do you think about it?

More and more miles added during the week days plus some rowing and biking too. I ended the week with a 12m long run yesterday and a 6m this morning at the Trace. Still feeling good! cool!

This is what I have been working with the last couples of weeks. I love Galloway's prediction formules and Elger's running plan (with some little modification). 8)

Thanks Raul - interesting reading!

Have you decided on a race to test your training? Inquiry minds need to know. What's the plan? :)

Hi Ginny, I't's still undecided, and I'm thinking about it. There are a couple of options in the coming weeks: Mercedes and Pensacola this Sunday; A1A in Ft. Lauderdale next week, Cowtown Marathon in Fort Worth on 2/28; Alpharetta Marathon (GA) and Bank of America Marathon (Tampa) on 3/01; Umstead Trail Marathon in Raleigh, NC on 3/7 and the Little Rock Marathon on 3/15. All depends on time, work, and of course $$$$ -- For sure, it will be just one.... THE LAST ONE!!!

The training plan suggests I should wait a couple of more days :? ; common sense indicates I should just forget about it  ; and my guts says that if I want to do it, I should go for it ASAP since I am feeling great! -- If I wait too long, the temperatures will be over the 60 mark and will drastically affect my performance.

So...... I don't know yet!

More and more miles added during the week in addition to more and more rowing. I finished the week going to Pensacola and running the marathon there. Now I officially quit running for a while! See you guys next year!

After a 2-weeks break, I started running again this morning. I went to the Run for Love event at the USM gateway. I ran, I took some pictures, I ran, I stopped, I ran again and completed 3.5 miles. I may go back to the Trace tomorrow for a very early morning 8-mile run (maybe!).

After the long run on a very cold morning last Sunday, I could not find time to run during the week and just showed up for the Run Thru History in Vicksburg this morning. Bad, bad, bad!! I guess you have to train a little between races  -- I went there, ran a solid first half in 22:30 minutes and then..... I died  . The heat and humidity killed me. After mile 3.2 and being afraid I would have to quit, I had to push the clutch pedal down and shift gears in my feets to training-survival pace and motion. So... slow I went for the next 3 miles with walking and running intervals (pace around 10mpm) until I reached the finish line in 54 minutes

I will probably go tomorrow morning to the Trace for a 8-10m long run and hopefully, I will start running again during the week days too!

I am amazed by my "excellent" skills and ability to gain weight so quickly! After going down to 178lb before the Pensacola Marathon, this morning the scale showed that the current force with which my body is attracted to Earth, equal to the product of this guy's mass and the acceleration of gravity, is reaching 187lb!! (almost 2lb up per week!). I hope it stops there!

Wow! of course, you can easily feel those extra-pounds while running! Yesterday, I went to the 5K race at the Trace. I tried to stay close to Phillip W. and Kily G. at the beginning of the run but had to let them go away after the first mile. I'm too heavy to keep with their pace. Today, I had a good day and did a 10m long run at the Trace. I think that at this weight, I will manage to finish the 10K course at the Azalea Train Run next Saturday in about 48-49 minutes. If I break 49 minutes, I will be happy!

Hey Raul - I would like to run between 48-49 min, not really sure if I can do it or not, but anyway, maybe we should do a group run again. That worked really well at the Steam Whistle and was fun. Are you planning to go out like a "CRAZY" Man?

Ooooops! I have forgotten to answer this message.
Ginny, I may try the group run; however, you know that the "CRAZY" man takes control of me. I predict something like this will happen -->

Mile 1: 7:00 (go Raul go!)
Mile 2: 7:30 (14:30)
Mile 3: 8:00 (22:30) - I am tired!
Mile 4: 8:10 (30:40) - Water please!
Mile 5: 8:30 (39:10) - Are we there yet?
Mile 6: 9:00 (48:10) - Around mile 5.6, I will see the group of Ginny, Charles, and Audrey quickly passing me. I will be exhausted and unable to follow and join them!
Final 0.2m: 1:40 - wow! I will be able to speed up a little bit in the last 0.2m (8:00 m/m)
FINAL TIME: 49:50 - -- I am dying. I need carbo loading. Where is the beer?

Definitely, running only in the weekend is not a good idea! It does not work!

Yesterday I went to the Azalea Trail Run, and I could not even match my prediction. I said at the end of the previous post: "If I break 49 minutes, I will be happy!" - Well... in the half point of the course I was thinking: "If I finish this race, I WILL BE HAPPY!" and I did in 52:47 (not even close to my times from last years).

What are my silly excuses this time? mmmmm... 1. the race was delayed 1 and half hours, and by the time of the start it was hot and humid; 2. I did not eat anything in the morning, and I was hungry for something "sweet" during the race. I was looking also for some Gatorade, and there was only water available, and of course... final excuse... I am FAT! (188 lb in the morning; at this pace I will break my weight record "200 lb" in a couple of weeks!).

This morning I ran 4 miles at the Trace. There was a snake on the road about mile 2 from USM. Fortunately, I saw it with enough anticipation. When I was close to the animal, I just made a lot of noise with my shoes to make it escape to the vegetation. It worked fine, and I continued with my run.

Let's see if I finally get back to training with some seriousness! With a lot of work and not running objective or goals in the near future, I tend to be lazier and lazier!
