Run/ Walk 30 Minutes a Day for 100 Days

Postby ryderruns on Mon Dec 29, 2008 11:22 am

My Dead Runner's Group (Dead Runner Society) is conducting a challenge to run/walk at least 30 minutes a day for 100 days, beginning on Jan 1. Originally, the challenge was to run, but many people (including me) simply cannot do that, for ristkof injury. Others felt that it would interfer with their training. So, it has evolved into walking/running a minimum of 30 minutes a day for 100 straight days.

I'm going to attempt this. Anyone want to join me?

I'm in, it's really not fair though, I am already doing everyday, and have been for a while, so it's not the same challenge for me as some of you will have.

Record Keeping

Postby ryderruns on Wed Dec 31, 2008 11:52 am

So far only Ginny, Nick and I will be attempting to run/walk a minimum of 30 minutes a day for 100 straight days, beginning tomorrow. If there are others who want to do this, I am willing to be the official record keeper. I think this might keep us motivated and maybe we can come up with a prize for the people who cover the most miles and the most time. If we do that, I would like for you to send me the totals once a week and I will keep track of it and post the results to the forum.

I am willing to keep track of everyone's walking/running. If You will either email it to me (every day or once a week) I will keep a total and post it to the forum.

Those of you who ran/walked today and want to join us, the challenge is to run/walk a minimum of 30 minutes a day for 100 straight days, beginning with today's work out.

As for me, I walked 27 and ran 42:12, which I will round down to 69 minutes.

Only 99 days to go!

Day 2

Postby ryderruns on Fri Jan 02, 2009 10:44 pm

This challenge is going to be good for me. One of my resolutions for the year is to be more physically active, especially to walk more. Today I 4.5 miles @ 10:22 pace and had a total of 2.75 miles of walking.

A couple of weeks ago I discovered that I can do a 4 mile loop from my house to the Family Y. Some of you who run from the Y into Timberton might be interested in doing this. You go down Timberton Drive and just before it ends in a cul de sac, you take a left. This is a gated road that will allow golfers to have access to the course. The gate has not yet be fully installed so it is easy to get through. You then continue straight to Bonhome where you take a left. Then when you get to Tatum Drive, you go left all the way to the light at Hiway 11. Go left and you'll get back to the Y. If you run from the Y and do the full loop, it will be about 4.75 miles. If you wanted to add distance, you could swing by Tatum Park.

That's what I did today, getting the total of 4.5 miles of running. Before I started my run, I walked .5 and then after my run I walked a mile to the Y and did weights. After that, I walked the .75 back to my house. So, I got a total of 86 minutes of running and walking.

Normally after 7 straight days of running, today would have been a rest day, but since I have accepted the 100 day challenge, I wanted to workout. We are currently experiencing thunderstorms, so I decided to go to the Y and walk a bit and if I felt like running, I would do so. I walked a half mile on the indoor track, did some stretching then got on a TM. I walked .75, then decided to try running. It didn't feel good, so I decided to play with the elevation and the speed, alternating .25 running and .25 walking until I had run a mile. Then I did a cooldown walk, followed by stretching.

When I finished I felt "refreshed" which was much better than I felt prior to starting the workout. My total time was 55 minutes with 1 mile running and 2.5 miles walking. That's 3.5 miles of exercise that I would not have done were I not doing the 100 day thingie.

Add me to the list. Since it is Jan. 4, I will have to make up some time. But that shouldn't be a problem since I will be doing Disney this weekend.

Day 5

Postby ryderruns on Mon Jan 05, 2009 7:04 pm

Today's workout was on the TM---4.25 miles running and 1.25 walking for a total of 69 minutes. I played around with the speed and the elevation. That's my excuse for being so slow.
