Had a good workout tonight. Biked an easy 8.44 miles on the trace just to cover the distance in 38:11, Avg HR 131. My legs are feeling a little fatigued. I then ran 3 miles at a pace that is faster than a couple of weeks ago, but slower than my last race pace by about 1 min. per mile. Time 38:45, Avg HR 150, Max HR 157. I was pleased that my HR didn't go into the 160s at all. I felt a little stiff or tight after my workout last night and again tonight, so I stretched both times. I think it helped a lot. I also soaked in the tub with Epsom Salt. A friend at work said that would pull all the soreness out of your muscles. We'll see.

Was supposed to do 2 miles easy run, but decided to walk 2 miles instead due to aches and pains. Aspen the hyper-dog enjoyed it.

Went out this morning for the Spring Dash 5K on the Trace. I didn't beat my PR but I'm happy with my time of 36:21. It was good to meet you, Joe (Tinker). Frank, I really appreciate your picture taking! :D

I signed up for the Crescent City Classic 10K today. Not sure how good of an idea that was, but it sounds like fun. I question myself because I'm doing the Azalea Trail 10K next Saturday, my Sprint Triathlon the following Saturday, and the Crescent City Classic 10K the following Saturday after the Tri. I've never done even one 10K and now I've signed up for two! :? I plan to have fun, so I think that's the most important thing.

Go For It

Postby Neonwolfen on Sun Mar 22, 2009 11:29 am

Susan,

It was very nice to meet you at the Spring Dash 5K - I am starting to feel a little more comfortable speaking to people, and you were a treat! Sounds like you have a lot planned and I know you will be up to the challenges!!! Just be careful and listen your body ... it knows best!

And I think you are a pretty awesome person - best of luck at the Tri and remember "enjoy" ...

Did a speed workout at Thames this evening. It was BRUTAL! I felt very challenged, but I was determined to finish those 400's. I kept repeating in my head, "The only way you get faster is to run faster" (Becky Rider). That seems like an obvious deduction, but I have somehow maintained some serious denial about that. Like one day I'm gonna go to the track and be faster because I've been training for a year. I guess that's partly true, but this is where the rubber (shoe rubber of course :)) meets the road.

Walk 1 Lap
W/U 1 Mile - 12:04 min.
6X(400R, 200W) avg. 400's = 2:37, Avg. HR 158, Max 169
C/D 1 Mile - 13:09
Walk 1 Lap

Resting HR = 60.

You will get faster

Postby ryderruns on Mon Mar 23, 2009 10:09 pm

If you keep doing those 400s at that pace and you most certainly will get faster. Those are good times! You may be a bit sore or fatigued for the next few days.

Did a swim workout at the pool tonight.

W/U - 60M
Kick Board - 120M
Pull Bouy - 120M
Freestyle - 210M
C/D - 110M
C/D #2 - Tread Water for 10 min.

My meters are odd because I swam across the pool instead of length-wise during swimming lessons. Next time I go to the pool (which will be Thursday), I'll have Jennifer with me. Yay!

Same swim workout as Tuesday night but added 120M of intervals finishing out in sprints. So happy Jennifer is here. She went with me. :D

Took a rest day on Friday before my first 10K the following day.

On Saturday, Jennifer and I met up with Laura, Raul, & Kelly at USM Gateway at 5:15 a.m. to caravan to the Azalea Trail Run. I was thinking, "This is ridiculous! I got up this early to drive through pouring rain to Mobile, and I'm sure they're gonna cancel the race. Oh, well." I was the lead car and I drove a conservative 60 mph through the many downpours. Becky called at 6:28 a.m. just as we were out of Lucedale and nearing the Alabama line. She told me the race had been postponed for 1 1/2 hours. I hung up from her, the road switched to 2-lane and we crossed the bridge into Alabama. Just as we got across the bridge, two deer came up from the side of the road directly into the path of my car. There was no getting around them, although I think I tried to swerve at the last minute. Unfortunately, I killed both deer. Jennifer was asleep and awakened to the carnage. She loves animals as much or more than most humans, so I was especially sad she was involved. My car was pretty smashed up on the front-end. It was non-drivable. Apparently, Laura and her crew saw parts flying through the air over my car & didn't know what had happened. God was good, though. He postponed the race for us, provided us a ride, the deer hit high enough on my windshield that it didn't come through it which could have severely injured or killed Jennifer and I, He provided a nice place for us to park, a ride home, and on and on and on. I am thankful. Also, I was able to get to know Kelly, Raul and Laura better and that was a blessing, too.

This was my 1st 10K, so I was a little nervous about the distance. I wanted to do well, but knew I wouldn't be able to run the entire thing. I finished with a time of 1:22. I was satisfied with that. I'm looking forward to increasing my speed and distance. The race was fun with all the people cheering and ringing their cowbells. I plan to do it again next year and I look forward to my next 10K in two weeks.

Jennifer and I just finished a nice, brisk 2-mile walk with my mom at the Dixie Track.

Was supposed to bike today but didn't because Jennifer's bike isn't ready to ride yet. Instead, I did my Wednesday workout of running 2-3 miles easy. I ran 2 and walked 1. My legs felt like sandbags again. I guess that's what it feels like when I haven't fully recovered. I'll do the bike on Wednesday.

Susan you are doing great!!!! I enjoy reading your reports, thanks for posting them.

My son has started the "Couch to 5K" (C25K) training program, we were at his house yesterday and he and I ran at the Dixie track. He doesn't live far from there. We will be running a 5K together in Popularville in May to raise funds for the Relay for Life for the school that my DNL teaches at in Popularville.

The track at Dixie is a nice place to run/walk.. it is beautiful there at this time of the year.. Do you live in the area??
See you at the races,

frank

Frank, My mom lives on McSwain Rd. which runs parallel to Elks Lake Rd. It's off of Rogers Rd. I live by the pecan orchard in Oak Grove off of Richburg Rd.

That's great what your son is doing. I guess that's what I started last year. I went from the couch to sprint triathlon with some 5Ks in between. I couldn't have done it without Becky and Sheryl. Now I know I have even more resources with other Pacers. Thanks for reading my training blog.
