Tuesday Night Runs

Postby Mike G on Wed Sep 03, 2008 7:42 pm

This is my first post so I will introduce myself. My name is Mike Graham and I am a new runner who started in January. I read about the 12 week training program on this site and decided to give it a try.
What a blast. My running now had a purpose.
I started with the beginners and moved to the intermediates and spent the rest of the time trying to keep Frank in sight. No way I was keeping up with him........yet!

On to my question:

Anybody interested in continuing the Tuesday night runs? I have come addicted to them. I plan on starting a half marathon plan in October and would like to keep some sort of speed training going.

Welcome to the forum and keep posting. We love new traffic.

I would also like to continue the Tues. night track, but I will let you know up front that I will not be able to make it every Tues. If we can get a lot of people to continue, maybe we would have a few people every week. Please post if others are interested. The thing I would like to avoid is waiting to the evening to go to the track, and then no one shows up. If that is the case, I would prefer to do my track workout in the morning. We could definitely try it for a few weeks to see if we can keep a group going. Let's do it! Is Tues. 6:00pm still good with everyone?

I might be able to come to a few... I have a crazy Tues/Thurs set of classes at work (USM) and sometimes can't break away from my students till after five, so it will be hard to committ, but if I know folks will be there- especially if you post weekly, I might be able to get to some.

I would just like to comment (even though I obviously will not be there) that I think that continuing the Tuesday runs is a great idea. One of the things I have noted about some running clubs is that they have seemingly perpetual weekly runs. My first biking group did the same (April - October or whenever it got cold in Ohio). The number and identities of participants changed, but it was nice to be able to rely on the fact that someone else would almost certainly show up. And, it is a great way to attract new runners and to keep current club members motivated.

Happy running!

vicki and i are going to the track tuesday night for 6 i guess, if that is what everyone is used to. we'd love it if others joined us. we figured we'd all just do whatever kind of workout we wanted.

As far as I know now, I will be there Tues. night. I wanted to mention to everyone to bring your own water, gatorade, etc. This will be unstructured and uncoached so come with a workout plan in mind. Hopefully, we can form some groups that might be running the same workouts, but be prepared to run your own workout in case no one is running something close to what you want to run.

Possibilities for training -
5k training
200s, 400s, 800s

10K training
400, 800s, 1200s, mile repeats

half marathons and marathons
800s, 1200s, mile repeats

You can also combine any of the distances and do a ladder workout, or just mix and match the distances as you choose.
Looking forward to seeing you guys on Tues.

Tuesday Nights

Postby GottaTri on Fri Sep 12, 2008 8:27 pm

I haven't been able to participate in many of the Tues. night workouts due to my work schedule. I'm glad to hear some of you want to keep it going. I will commit to be there when I can. Is it still going to be at Thames? This week (9/16) should be a go. :)
