Still doing the same... absolutely nothing, nada, zero, during the week and running a couple of miles in the weekends. Shame on me! :?

I went yesterday to the Run With the FOG in Sumrall, ran 3.5m, took some pics during the race, and chatted with old and new friends. It was a very well organized event by Richie and Anita Sumrall and their group of volunteers.

This morning I did a slow 8m long run at the Trace. It is getting warmer outside, but everything was fine during the work out.

This coming week?... I don't know yet! I have already registered for the Crescent City Classic in NOLA on Saturday, but I am not sure whether I will be there.

I went to New Orleans yesterday morning. I felt good, ran the 10K, and finished in 48:11. There were millions of people this year! When I was ready to come back to Hattiesburg, I walked by the 5-mile marker (2 hours after the race started!) and there were still a lot of people entering City Park to complete the 10K journey.

In the afternoon I went with my family to downtown Jackson and participated in the Run from the Sun. There were more than 800 participants in the event. I changed my mind at the last moment and competed in the 5K Walk instead of the 5K run. Wow! I have forgotten how hard is to "walk" in a race. The last time I did was in last year's edition of the Run for the Roses in Prentiss (and got shin splints after it). Yesterday I finished second overall and got the Masters title.

We had a very scary moment during the event because my 10-year old son, who was running in the 1-m fun run, almost was hit by a car. He was sprinting to the end when suddenly the police officer in charge of controlling the traffic let a car cross the street  . Some people screamed and the driver hit the brakes and stopped very close to him. As you can imagine, I was not very happy with the cop. I just went away and cooled down a little bit to avoid telling him some nice words and getting in trouble with the law! :x

Anyway, everything was fine after it. I forgot... a very good thing about this event is that they have a free melanoma skin cancer screening. I got it and asked about a particular spot I have on my arm. It was OK; however, the doctor found a "funny looking mole" on my back that he recommended be removed and analyzed. I am glad I took the screening.

This morning I ran 6.5m at the Trace under wonderful weather conditions: sunny, cool and windy. Everything looks fine. Should I run during the week days too? Maybe!

Some weeks are good, some weeks are not so good! I am amazed (not really!) on how inconsistent I am in my runs. After running Ok in the CCC 10K at New Orleans last week, I struggled to finish a 5K race yesterday. I went to the Acorn 5K in Lamar Co Saturday morning. I started fast but after the first mile, I had to stop three times along the course to catch my breath! -- I finished it in something like 23:40. What is funny is that each time I screw up with my time in a 5K run...... I place in my age group! -- Yesterday, I was second. Those occasions in which I have run 2 minutes faster, there were 4-5 guys ahead of me in my age bracket.

This morning I finished the week with a 8-mile slow run in the Trace. I still have that funny annoying pain in several muscles of both of my legs, but... I guess I will survive!

Nestor, what is so great about you, is that you are always positive, and always smiling!! You are just so fun to be around. I mean, I have picked you up in a canoe, just about drowning in a mini tri, (big smile as you are sinking, wasn't sure if I should pick you up or not). I pass you on a bike in a duathalon on the side of the road, after you fell, still smiling!! I pass you up yesterday in a 5K when you are cramping, still smiling!! Oh, and the biggest smile of all, when you passed Charles up at the finish line!! You always have so much fun in everything you venture into!! I would look like this if it were me in those situations  (Well, except for the Charles and the finish line)!! Anyway, you are just one of those people who make lemonade out of lemons!!

Thanks for your note Audrey! It makes feel good.
I also feel  sometimes when those things occur. What happens is that I pulled a facial mucle that may me look like I am always smiling during a race!

I had a very, very, very hard week of training!!!! -- In total I ran.... I ran.... I ran 3.1 miles! and it happened to be during the 5K race in Petal yesterday. Of course, I got another "23 minutes and something" finish time. And again, nobody of the fast guys in my age group showed for the race, so I placed first in the 40-49 category. Can you believe it? -- I think I found the secret to place in the races: Don't train hard, just show up for the events, and die of exhaustion during the course! -- Shame on me!

Oooops! -- I guess my running schedule posts start getting more and more boring than ever before. Sorry guys! - This week I just have to write exactly the same I did the previous one..... I did not train at all, I ran another 5K in Laurel on Saturday (and of course I got another slow 23 minutes+something finish and guess what.... another trophy! ).
My Gosh.... when will I will get back running?
Finally, I got a PR in my current weight (189lb!!... and going up) :(

I went yesterday with my family to the Pursuit of Fun 5K in Gulfport. I ran the 5K just for fun (24:51). I think I just did the first half mile strong and then drastically slowed down since it was a hot and extrahumid morning. I ran and walked the 1m fun race with my oldest son, and my wife did it with the youngest one. Then we had some delicious after-race food, and enjoyed the waterpark for a couple of hours. What a good workout! $$

I met with the Henderson family there! Ray placed third in his age group whereas Bob was second overall among the boys in the 1m run. Meanwhile, Jennifer placed third in the race walk event.

Stupid Question

Although I have previously written that there is no such thing as a stupid question, I have what might be considered as such. On your training schedule, what is the difference between off and rest? Oh! I think I know. You list off when you are off somewhere working, vacationing, etc. You list rest when you are resting from all those off days. Is that a close definition?

That's exactly what I wanted to know! I thought it was my lack off experience and there was some official difference between the two. Glad to see I am not alone.

Remember that Raul got hurt at the Pacer Relays and I'm sure he was under doctor's orders to take it EASY while he recovered!!!!! :D :D

You are 100% right Becky! 8) -- What happens is that some times I just get tired of those off days so I decide to rest a little bit during the following day  -- It has worked great so far. As you see, my breaks between off days are getting in a nice pattern. I am even thinking about including some coach-potato days to my routine. I hope this addition won't hurt the whole experience

I finally started running and doing some other exercise beginning on July First. I am not running as "fast" or as often as I used to, but I can say the OFF-OFF-REST program is over  . I ran 10-12 times, swam 8-9 times, and got in the stationary bike in 6 occasions thru the month. I know, I know... it's not very much, but at least I am moving my fat body again!! 8) -- During July I participated in 1 full baby triathlon (Y-Tri), 2 Triathlons in relay teams (Sunfish & Heart of Dixie Tris), and a 5k race-walk.

Running has been a joke. Speed is gone, so I now concentrate in just covering some distance or time for the day (I have not run anything under 10 mpm pace in a training session). Maybe I will try to go a little faster in the future. It seems to be fun just when racing in a 5 or 10K.

See you guys around! - Don't run too fast!
