I think that today was our hottest day of the year. At 11:30 am, when I began my run, it was 88 degrees. Since I have been doing a lot of yard work and lots of walking and some running is similar temperature, I thought nothing of running in such heat. I just about got myself in heat "distress" or whatever it's called. After taking 2 weeks off with a hamstring/piriformis syndrome, I've been working my way back up to 2-3 miles of continuous running. The past two days I ran 3 miles on the TM at the Y which is usually nice and cool. Today, even though I would be outside, I planned to do at least 3 miles and I was able to do 3.5 miles at 10:42 pace. As soon as I finished the run, I realized that I had misjudged the heat and the distance from home. I was 1.5 miles from my house and I barely managed to walk it in. As soon as I got home, I stood under the hose (drinking a bunch too) until I was cooled enough to go inside and get something else to drink.
For the next few days, I will be very cautious because I know how close I was to having big-time problems. I regret that I had the heat issue, but it sure did feel good to run that distance and be somewhat pain-free.
